Hiking in Malibu State Park…..April 2013

What better way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon in Southern California than hiking with wonderful people, good food and the beautiful scenery of Malibu State Park?! I have many people express to me how hard it is to keep on a clean diet during the weekend because the schedule and activities change but even so, if you’re focused on your goal it’s not hard to stay on point when your activities are part of your program and you plan your diet strategy.
We didn’t leave until around 2:00pm and I was already 3 meals down at home and the last meal, dinner would be at home too so I only had 2 away meals to worry about…..easy!!! I took one gallon of water in my backpack, 4 boiled eggs(no yolks), 2 cups of cherries(low glycemic load), 1 grapefruit, 1 Jay Rob* protein bar, 1 RTN* protein shake(sweetened with stevia), and a homemade veggie wrap with French Baker* sprouted tortilla, avocado, pico de gallo, sliced radishes, sliced red pepper, chopped assorted kale, alfalfa and broccoli sprouts, mustard and lemon juice, wrapped in wax paper and packed in a tupperware container so as to not get smashed in the backpack. I took more food than I actually needed so I came back home with a few items.
For someone who lives in the gym 6 days a week this two hours plus of hiking was the perfect steady state cardio for a leaning out body builder who is concerned with staying anabolic! :-) All in all I’d say I burned anywhere from 700 to 1,000 calories all the while eating the proper food at the appropriate times AND had a great Sunday out of the gym!!
